The Flying Donkeys V The Old Lady

Chievo V Juventus

This game was a must win for Juventus as Napoli were level on points, thank to their victory against Catania. Therefore the three points were vital if they were to keep their place at the top. Juve had more than enough motivation, and provided an entertaining and hard fought victory.

The game started off with Juve in full control and dictated the play, yet Chievo were not exactly push -over’s, they had enough fight in them. However, by the 10th minute so did Juve, when Alessandro Matri opened the scoring with a skilful shot on goal. Matri and Sebastian Giovinco seemed to have a fitting partnership upfront, one would hope that Antonio Conte sees this also and uses this partnership more.

The Flying Donkeys didn’t let this deter them one bit as they remained organised and ready to counter attack. On the 23rd minute Gianluigi Buffon was called into action as an on form Alberto Poloschi had an shot that looked destined to end up inside the near post.

Just before the interval, Juve got their second goal to help cement the three points. Stephen Lichtsteiner got on the end of a wonderfully worked goal, where Matri and Giovinco linked up well and then The Atomic Ant did a delicate back heel to Stephen and there was no chance that he was going to miss it from six yards. The Swiss had an shot just moments before denied, but had that gone in there would have been outrage from the home side as Lichtsteiner had handled the ball.

Juve were a bit slow to get going in the second half and Chievo used this to their advantage as the kept on pressing Juve and did well to keep the ball. This was an excellent response by the home side after going down by two goals, and their hard work paid off as in the 52nd minute Cyril Thereau pulled one back for the home side. This in turn resulted in a rather nervy and clearly shaken Juve side, the impenetrable Juve back line had seen flabbergasted.

But in the end, Juve just seened to want the victory more and did everything they could to secure all three points. Juve may have won this game, but they were taught an important lesson, DON’T LET YOUR GUARD DOWN AND EVEN A 2 GOAL ADVANTAGE IS NOT ENOUGH.
