The following are indications that society is closing:
- Make people afraid of an internal and external threat
- Secret prisons, where torture can take place undisturbed by the trifle of law
- Develop a paramilitary force
- Keep a watchful eye on ordinary people
- Detain and release ordinary citizens- to show them you have the power
- Restrict the press, so that you only get the news they want you to have
- Label any dissent as an act of treason and criticism as espionage
- Change the law when it suits you.
